Laws of the Night: Direct Intervention

QUESTION: Player A´s minion is acting. Player B´s minion blocks. Player A´s minion plays Carrion Crows. Player B plays Direct Intervention on Carrion Crows. Are player A allowed to play another Carrion Crows?

ANSWER: No. The cancelled Carrion Crows are still considered played, and thus it´s card text " A vampire can play only one Carrion Crows each combat" do still apply. The VTES rulebook 1.6.1 say: >>Some effects can cancel a card "as it is played." These effects (and effects that grant the ability to play them, like Forced Awakening) are the only effects allowed during the "as played" time period of another card. Even drawing to replace cards comes after this time period.<<

QUESTION: Player A plays a card. Can player B use The Barrens to try to fetch a Direct Intervention to cancel

ANSWER: No. "A card can be canceled "as it is played" (with Sudden Reversal, Direct Intervention, etc.) only as it is played. The only cards that can be played "as" another one is played are the ones the players have in their hands at the time. You cannot use the Barrens after a master card is played, for example, to attempt to draw into a Sudden Reversal to cancel it. [RTR 20040501]

QUESTION: Player A plays Govern the Unaligned. Player B cancels it with Direct Intervention. Can player A play a new Govern the Unaligned with the same vampire?

ANSWER: Yes. This is actually covered in the VTES rulebook! Chapter 11 say: >>“Cancel a card”: A "canceled" card has no effect, but it is still considered played. Unless explicitly written, cost for the card is paid. If the card was a strike card, the minion who played it must choose a strike, which might come from another strike card. If the card was an action card, the minion doesn’t tap (he doesn’t pay for the action card), and can play the same action card again.<<

The Stockholm League - August 06 2014

Beast with a skill card makes excellent use of this card.

Two tables was played in the eigth round of ten in our June-August league.
Standard tournament rules apply + printed proxy is allowed.

Table 1:
1. Rasmus (Aus-weenie)
2. Henrik (Bigcap Tremere with ANI) 1 vp
3. Ober (Lasombra BH sb)
4. Kim (G5-6 Salubri Spirit Marionette)
5. Peter (!Brujah and Beast with obt-anarch-tech) 4 vp, 1 gw

Comment: This was a frustrating experience for Henrik! With Gabrielle de Righetti, Dr John Dee, Alonso Petrodon and Gustaphe Brunelle in play, it looked pretty solid. Petrodon diablerised one of Rasmus minions and got Bowl, Flak Jacket and 44 Magnus, leaving the Bowl to John Dee. But Kim played Fear of Mekhet on Petrondon *POFF*, Jacko Decapitaded John Dee *POFF* and Chantry was a weak help when Gabrielle got Fame. Only 1 vp for Henrik, game win for Peter.

Table 2:
1. Robert (Guhuri Nana master rush) 3 vp, 1 gw
2. Ober (Bigcap chi-pre vote)
3. Jonas H (!Ventrue grinder) 2 vp
4. Daniel R Setite toolbox)
5. Rasmus (Weenies with Dragon Breath Rounds)

League standings:
Randy 72 rtp
Peter 52 rtp
Henrik 42 rtp
Jens 40 rtp
Kim 32 rtp
Caroline 30 rtp
Ober 28 rtp
Erik M, Kristofer 26 rtp
Robert 24 rtp
Jonas H 18 rtp
Tomas 8 rtp
Rasmus 6 rtp
Ivan 4 rtp
